Mounting a Front Hub

I just thought I would share how I mounted my front hub motor. I was running aluminum suspension forks for 1500 miles or more. Probably not a good idea. You can see how the washer was not sitting right. This can be dangerous...

So I got some rigid mountain bike forks. These are Surly Instigator forks. I had to file the dropouts a little so the motor sat a little deeper. This way the washer sits behind the the "lawyers lips'' that are designed to hold a quick release hub.You can see that the washer sits flatter in the picture below.

Then I added the Surly Nice Rack to the front. So I ran a bolt through the the torque arm to the rack attachment point on the fork. Also there's a bolt to the disc brake mount. This should keep the motor from moving and allow me to carry 50 to 70 more pounds.
